TIMA New York

Striving to "give something back to the community" is the founding principle of Tzu-Chi New York branch. Tzu-Chi New York members have devoted themselves to serving needy people locally. With its strong manpower of both volunteer professionals and non-professionals, the branch has held a series of on going projects:

  1. Saturday Mobile Clinic
In partnership with the Elmhurst Hospital in New York City, Tzu-Chi New York provides medical services to low-income families without health insurance. Basic blood tests and referral services are also offered to the patients. The mobile clinic is now well know among local communities through word of mouth by patients whom it has served.

  2. Health Consultation and Blood Pressure Check

  3. Bone Marrow Donor Drives
Since the establishment of Tzu-Chi Marrow Donor Registry for patients in need of bone marrow transplant, Tzu-Chi New York has been actively educating and recruiting marrow donors. In addition to conducting presentations and donor driives at as many community events as they can attend, New York members often assist patients and their families in the donor search process and provide spiritual support. This year, the branch also started a "walk in" donor program for people who are not able to attend schedualed drives.

  4. Health Education Seminars

  5. Annual Heath Fair

  6. Flu Shot Service
Like all Tzu-Chi missions, these services are made possible by a group of dedicated volunteer doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. Many of them are volunteers who regularly participate in more than one activity. They often sacrifice their weekends or even break's between work shifts to serve the needy.
